The system was originally built as RugbyMed, for exclusive use by the New Zealand Rugby Union and All Blacks, from 2003-10. It was then developed into SportsMed, retaining the original rugby relationship whilst extending into a wider range of sports and users. The concept is now available to elite athletes, everyday consumers, and gyms/fitness organisations. In addition to this, white label opportunities exist for corporate health and wellness, aged care and the schools/youth and tertiary organisations. SportsMed also powers the consumer FITYOU product range, and CrossFit-specific platform FITBOX.
The data analytics engine is incredibly powerful, and SportsMed is the only company in the world to provide this as an athlete, health and wellness solution. SportsMed can monitor and measure all sporting operations such as wellness, nutrition, physical performance, medical interactions, finances and risk trends. The platform’s analytical engine then extracts meaningful insights from data patterns to predict trends, mitigate risks, improve results, maximise potential and build champions. This is all supported by the knowledge and experience of industry experts.
The ERSG Group involvement with SportsMed grew from a direct relationship between David Evans and the SportsMed CEO, Zane Hall. Zane has a strong professional background in technology start-ups, with previous positions including General Manager at Apple Computers NZ and National Channel Manager at Digital Equipment Corp. His entrepreneurial skills have delivered end-to-end technology solutions over many years. With a particular focus on business strategy development, he is a strong leader with a vision of new markets and opportunities, with particular focus on technology and health/wellness.
The SportsMed development team comprises over 100 collective years of international and elite sport experience; national coaches, national leads for human performance, multiple elite team sports scientists, members of the Nike Innovation Panel, leading nutritionists and elite performance experts, staff with PhDs in mathematics and predictive analytics and sports science. This is all supported by a dedicated in-house technical and development team.
Commenting on the collaboration with SportsMed, ERSG’s David Evans said:
“This system really is forging the way for the future of athletic and sporting performance, at any level. I am incredibly optimistic about the future of SportsMed, and very pleased with the relationship between ERSG and SportsMed as a whole.”
