Huge congratulations to ESRG Ambassador and EMERGE Sports Management athlete Jordan Nobbs, who was named Vauxhall England Player of the Year 2016 at last weekend’s FA Women’s Football Awards.
The 23-year-old vice-captain beat teammates Karen Carney, Steph Houghton and Jill Scott in a public poll to win the award.
The Arsenal Ladies’ midfielder has already secured 33 senior caps for her national side and played a central part in the team’s unbeaten Euro 2017 qualification campaign, which saw the Lionesses’ top their group with seven wins from eight and scoring 32 goals, conceding just once.
The team will now face Scotland, Spain and Portugal in the group stages of the tournament, which kicks off in the Netherlands on 16 July.
Managed by EMERGE Sports Management, the female-focused talent management agency launched by ESRG Sport & Leisure earlier this year, Nobbs has enjoyed a successful 2016 both on and off the pitch.
In February, she signed a new contract with Arsenal Ladies whilst playing an integral role in the side’s Women’s FA Cup campaign, which resulted in a 1-0 win over rivals and holders Chelsea to win the final in May.
Off the field, EMERGE brokered a new long-term sponsorship deal with Nike for the international midfielder; ESRG Group also extended its sponsorship agreement with Nobbs, which sees her continue in the role as ESRG Group ambassador into 2017.
Voted for by the public, the Vauxhall England Player of the Year Award is one of several accolades that make up the FA Women’s Football Awards, which celebrate the best of international and domestic football including player, manager and club achievements across The FA Women’s Super League (WSL) and FA Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Commenting on her award, Nobbs said: “It’s a real honour to be named player of the year, especially as so many of my team-mates played so well this season.
“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me and for everyone’s support for the England team this year. We have a massive year ahead of us and we’re determined to go to the Euros next summer in the best possible position to do well and make all of our supporters proud.”
ESRG Group CEO and EMERGE Chairman Tony Copsey said: “Jordan has had a fantastic year and we’re delighted for her to see her hard work and achievements being recognised by the public.
“Jordan was up against some tough competition so to win the award is a huge accomplishment. She’s an incredibly talented footballer and her attitude and dedication to the sport is reflected both on and off the pitch and we are very proud to work with her. Huge congratulations to Jordan on behalf of everyone at ESRG!”
