ESRG are delighted to announce that 28th March sees the return of the very successful Annual Wheelchair rugby tournament, taking place at Sedgefield Community College. The event has been organised by the Darlington Mowden Park Community Scheme sponsored by ESRG Group.

Wheelchair rugby is a wheelchair based sport for disability affecting all four limbs. It is a growing sport which is developing every year as more people become associated with it. As one of the only full-contact disability sports, it is little wonder wheelchair rugby, aka ‘murderball’ was one of the biggest hits of the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The North East Bulls, who compete in Division 1 of the BT Super Series, are the only wheelchair rugby club based in the North East of England and compete in fixtures Nationwide. Graeme Smith from the Bulls said “Life doesn’t end after disability, and through this friendly tournament we hope to show just that. Able-bodied athletes and disabled athletes competing together on a level playing field, each as competitive as the other” He also added “We want to thank DMP for making this tournament happen again, and we are proud of our ever-growing relationship with the club. Also thanks to Irwin Mitchell and ESRG for the funding support to allow these tournaments to take place”
The Help for Heroes Phoenix House Recovery Centre provides unique courses and tailored support to recovering wounded, injured and sick veterans, serving personnel and their families to help them achieve their long-term goals and aspirations. We are delighted to be facing their team in the tournament again this year.
David Evans from ESRG comments “The competition is a great way to continue our partnership with DMP. This is a popular event in their calendar which is enjoyed by all involved. It’s a fantastic celebration of the diversity of Rugby.”
DMP would like to say a huge thanks must go to ESRG for sponsoring this event with special thanks for their continued support as Principle Sponsor of the Mowden Park Community Scheme.”
Supporters are encouraged and very welcome at the tournament. It will take place on Tuesday 28th March (6pm – 9pm) at Sedgefield Community College (TS21 3DD).
